THE OWNERS
Ed and Cindy were born and raised in St Joseph, MO and have lived in the area their whole life. They have been married since 1985 and have 2 adult children: Justin and Courtney, and one granddaughter: Sage. As a young mom, Cindy took on small paint jobs and made crafts to sell for extra money, she was always involved in music and plays keys for the band at her church. Later, she “lucked into” a job as the general manager at a venue called the Journey Home. There she gained invaluable experience in property management and a passion for decorating for weddings and events. She developed her own business from that called Cindy’s Elegant Events. This has been growing in their garage and basement for the past several years and the need for added storage was necessary!
Since buying the property (which is a retired rock quarry) about 20 years ago, she and her husband have enjoyed hosting many events for church, family and groups such as Young Life over the years at their farm just north of St Joseph. They built their own house there 12 years ago. Finally in Fall of 2018, she was able to talk her husband into building once again! Thus, the birth of the Sycamore Tree Barn.
The venue got its name from both the many sycamore trees surrounding the two lakes on the property and a nod to their faith as the Bible mentions Zacchaeus climbing that particular kind of tree to see Jesus.
THE PROPERTY
The Sycamore Tree is a 7,000 sq. ft. climate controlled indoor venue. It has a 1,000 sq. ft. covered porch and a 12’ X 36’ deck with breathtaking views of the beautiful pond across from the venue. Inside, The Sycamore Tree holds crystal chandeliers, full bridal and groom suites, warming kitchen, 5 bathrooms (1 handicap), and folding tables for dining, buffets, appetizers, cake, etc. A ceremony can be held indoors or outdoors with 520 white chairs available for outdoors or indoors use and 280 vintage wood cross back chairs available for indoors use only. The venue has multiple lovely outdoor ceremony areas with stunning backdrop views of the lake, barn or woods.
The Sycamore Tree’s indoor venue boasts a capacity of up to 408 seated guests at dining tables with room also for a buffet, bar and dance floor. Acres of picturesque field for wedding ceremony with incredible lake, barn or woods backdrops can accommodate virtually unlimited guests. Patios and decks make great accommodation for cocktail serving spaces and outdoor games.
We’re approximately 6 miles North of St. Joseph, Missouri and 40 minutes North of MCI Airport. There are 3 and 4 star hotels within 10 minutes our venue.
